The hut is more like a small hotel with high prices. 70 euro for half board: shared room with 13 people, dinner of mediocre quality and very limited breakfast (just some bread and jam and cheese/ham, milky coffee). The main issue is also the portions size, a mountain hut is supposed to feed hungry hikers!
First time climbers, stayed at 4 refuges in the area over the last week. While all the other refuges had a nice air about them (friendly staff, good food, user friendly, homeliness etc), this place left a bad taste in the mouth. It’s overpriced and disorganised. The staff aren’t that helpful either. I would avoid it .. though it’s next to the best via ferreted route ‘centrali’ which shouldn’t be missed.
People are so polite and welcoming, the vibe is great and so is the location. When compared to other huts, food portions, quality and variety are drastically behind others and that’s an aspect that can make a big difference for hikers. They could offer some XL menu options and surcharge accordingly.
PROS:
1) Lovely people and good vibes.
2) Location (Best for Bocchette Alte).
3) Very clean, toilets too.
CONS:
1) Small food portions, especially breakfast.
2) Charging station only available at the restaurant and limited to a few devices (first come, first served).
3) Top beds in bunk beds have no safety rails, nor ladder.
The rifuggio is in a great spot, but for what you pay you definitely don’t get your money’s worth - the breakfast portions are laughably small and the dinner is mediocre as well. The only thing worth ordering are eggs with bacon, the other dishes consist of a little meat and some vegetables - not sufficient after a long day in the mountains. The food isn’t even tasty!
Breakfasts are also incomparable - whereas in Tuckett you get unlimited buffet access, here you get a plate of bread and some ham and cheese which is barely enough for breakfast and will never be enough for you to make yourself a sandwich for the hike…
Almost no gluten-free options for breakfast, we only got two slices of corn crackers. Compared to Tuckett, where we got a whole basket of gluten-free bread and cornettos, the offer is laughable. If we hadn’t brought our own gluten-free bread we wouldn’t have had anything to eat.
Not good enough for the price you pay
We were 2 people and did 3 refugios in a row, this was by far the worst. Due to late booking we had to take a room with 4 beds and had to pay for all 4, inclusive halfpension. Thats a bit odd, but fair enough we knew that in advance. The scam is that they didnt want to give us food for 4 people even if we had already paid for it!!
Especially the breakfast is portioned for children and is not enough if you want to go hike / via ferrata or climb for some hours.
Furthermore the service was badly organized and they seemed to be very stressed & pissed all the time, they really need to change that, other refugios manage to do that perfectly.
Besides the beautiful site, the rooms were clean also they sanitaries are modern & there is the option to take a cold shower without paying extra.
Overall this refugio is not worth it since its more an overpriced hotel than a real shelter, next time we will surely avoid this place.
Too pricey for what they offer. Dinner was bad. We was there with 18 people. Organization in restaurant is bad. We have wait 1,5h to be served with eggs and old bred with fried cheese. For 80€ for night. Otherwise. Rooms cleanness was good. Beds was new and clean.
For me, one of the most beautifully situated huts in the entire Alpine region. The path from Vallesinella here is one of the most spectacular hikes that Europe has to offer (7.2 km, 1,082 meters of altitude, a bit steeper at first through the forest, then more gently ascending. A few passages secured by steel cable, but not difficult). The hut itself is very well managed. Good cuisine, reasonable prices. The associated chapel is heartbreaking - a Gilkey Memorial of the Brenta; a memorial to mountain dead. (P.s.: it's a mountain hut - not a luxury loft).
Dinner and breakfast are below any expectation. My friends got dinner after 15 minutes, but two of us waited almost an hour on the same table. Dinner was more like a breakfast you make in 5 minutes, so I really don't understand such wait time.
